Working on our new Home in Edina with Alex was a once in a lifetime experience. This was the second house that Kathy and I built, not living in the area and we learned several hard lessons with our first house. Alex took all of those anxieties out of this project. He helped us to build our dream home, providing guidance and direction along the way. Over time Alex went from a Project Manager to a friend and someone that we felt had a vested interest in the success of our project. Alex helped us to take our house concept into a home and for that we’ll always be grateful!
When we purchased our row house from City Homes last spring, we knew nothing about this company. We had toured the house and were debating whether this was the right fit for us. After meeting with Rebecca, we were so impressed with her and her vision and that pretty much sealed the deal. Soon after, the process of making decisions/selections began and we were on our way. We began working with a team of primarily three...Logan, Annie and Kirk. We were pleasantly surprised to learn we would be meeting weekly with them. It is an understatement to say that this entire process has been incredible. Logan, Annie and Kirk are professional, smart, talented, kind and ultimately qualified to do their jobs. They make every effort to accommodate whatever changes we wish to make. They show up on time and always prepared. We receive a summary each week of the status of our project that is thorough and easy to understand. We will, of course, be happy when the project is completed, and we get to move into this beautiful new home, but will miss our interaction and weekly meetings with them. They are among the "best" in their industry and we consider them friends.

My family built our home with City Homes in 2019/2020. We were pleasantly surprised by the way they listened to our ideas and made them into a reality by suggesting and negotiating reasonable and complimentary ideas in our budget. They never sacrificed quality and made sure to communicate along the way. No detail was left untouched AND we had a lot of fun working with them. We love our home and would build again with them.
City Homes exceeded my expectations. There are always issues that arise when purchasing a newly constructed home. Todd was outstanding. He identified items during our walk through that I didn't notice (small cracks, nail head in sheetrock) and fixed them. He also waited until after I was moved in so the painters could "touch up" any marks left from the movers. Lisa in the office always responded quickly and followed up to make sure items were completed on time.
The experience of building our forever home with City Homes exceeded our expectations in every way. From the very beginning, we knew we were on the same page when we showed an inspirational photo of a home style we loved to Rebecca, and she presented the same exact photo to us from her archive. We were ecstatic to acquire the perfect lot at the right price, find the right architect for our style, and hash out the details during a global pandemic. We completed our home in record time and were blown away by the talented team provided to us. Having recently completed and now reside in a custom townhome from City Homes, LLC, we have personal experience working with Logan Weihs as project manager and Kirk VanSlooten as field manager.
Logan is detail oriented, a wonderful young man, and was a pleasure to work with throughout our project. He kept us on track, and well informed throughout the process. He was always cheerful and attentive to our specific requests and questions throughout our custom build. In retrospect, his guidance was essential to the successful completion of our project. He has a very bright future in the construction industry!
Kirk is a gem. His years of independent home building experience gives him critical on-site experience and skill in coordination of sub-contractors. His knowledge of various construction techniques and alternatives was invaluable in guiding us through our selections. We particularly appreciated his honest opinions, as in “I wouldn’t do that” or “another option would be this.” He always had a smile and was friendly with all the subs. If we were on site with questions, he frequently would “swing by” to quickly assist us. We enjoyed his sense of humor and deep knowledge base. City Homes is lucky to have him.

We built with City Homes in 2013 and loved our home! In 2018, we decided to make a move to a new neighborhood. We chose to build with City Homes for a second time because we trusted them to deliver a home we would be certain to love. And as we hoped, the finished product is beautiful and perfect for our family!
For me, I wanted to find a builder who would build a free standing home less than 3000 sq feet, which seems difficult to find in the Twin Cities. From the moment I met Rebecca, she really made me feel comfortable about what I wanted, how much I wanted to spend, and educating me on what was available for me to do. I feel that she really went out of her way to help me build the home that I wanted to build. She paired me with an architect who really listened to my ideas and guided me towards a designer who I really jived with and was a huge asset to me in the whole building process.
From the beginning Rebecca knew my budget and really worked with me to have the things I really wanted to have in my home. I also knew that building a home will often have some “extras” that somehow I insisted I needed, which made me over budget, but that was my own choice. She is very transparent about the money you will be spending and will work on getting you the best people to do the job at the best price. There are things she doesn’t compromise on when it comes to building a home and I appreciated knowing that, including the insulation and the necessary steps to make sure your home well sealed for the winter and summer down to the craftsmanship of the carpentry.
Weekly meetings were set up with the project manager and field supervisor, plus my designer. These were often done online. Along with access to a website, Buildertrend, I knew exactly what was happening everyday at my house from the schedule to the weekly/daily logs. When there was an issue, it was never hidden from the log and someone always made contact with me to let me know. Actually, the only big issue I had was a water/mud issue coming from the neighbors yard. City Homes took care of it and explained everything to me and how it was going to be resolved. Any time you choose to add something to your home that was over the budgeted cost, you need to approve the overage. You are so aware of what is happening at all times; not in an annoying kind of way but they are very transparent about everything.
The finished home, which I moved into 10 days ago, is exactly what I wanted. Any minor issues I had along the way, I addressed and they were always taken care of by City Homes. What were my minor issues - repainting of a bathroom; a dent in the dryer was replaced immediately; wood boards needed to be restained on the screened in porch. City Homes was always agreeable to make the necessary changes for me.
This was the first time I had built a home, although I had done major renovations in my previous home. The process was so incredible. I met wonderful people who really enjoy building homes. I was educated on so many things about building a house I truly felt like I was part of the process. If I were to build again, I would not hesitate to have Rebecca and CityHomes do my build. They have been wonderful to work with.

Let me tell you how it happened. I sell residential Real Estate; several years ago my daughter and her husband moved back to Minneapolis from out of state. I knew of an okay home located on a phenomenal lot. After begging my kids to look at and consider buying the house while thinking "big picture, location, location, location", my daughter turned to me and said "mom, this just isn't for us but if you love it so much, why don't you buy it?" Fast forward twenty four hours and it was ours! It became a rental property for us when after a couple of years we sold our family home in Edina out of the clear blue sky and decided to tear down the "okay" home and build on the "phenomenal" lot!
