Edina Flats began with a question: How could we create a different housing option for people who loved living in Edina but were ready for a different way of living? The answer became City Homes’ first luxury condominium development, designed around the idea of rightsizing rather than simply downsizing.

Located at Valley View Road and Kellogg Avenue, Edina Flats includes 15 individually designed residences within four intimate buildings. Instead of creating a large traditional condominium building with long interior corridors, the residences were thoughtfully positioned on the corners of the buildings, allowing windows on multiple sides and bringing an abundance of natural light into each home.

We wanted the residences to feel like City Homes homes, not typical condos. Open, livable floor plans, high-end finishes, private outdoor spaces, generous storage and parking were all important to the design. Buyers also had opportunities to customize their homes, bringing the craftsmanship, detail and individuality of a custom single-family home into a more maintenance-free lifestyle.

Just as important was the location. Edina Flats was designed to fit into an established neighborhood where homeowners could walk to parks, restaurants, coffee shops and everyday amenities while remaining connected to the Edina community they already knew and loved.

The project gave us an opportunity to think differently about what housing in Edina could look like. It wasn’t about asking people to give up the quality, space or character they were accustomed to. It was about creating a right-sized home that offered those same things in a different way.

Edina Flats remains an important project for City Homes because it expanded what we could offer our clients and reinforced something we continue to believe today: great housing isn’t one-size-fits-all. As people’s lives change, our communities need thoughtful housing choices that allow them to stay connected to the places they call home.
