This Edina remodel and addition was designed for empty nesters who wanted to turn their existing rambler into a forever home that would work beautifully today and allow them to comfortably age in place for years to come. Rather than building more house than they needed, the focus was on creating the right spaces on the main level and making everyday living easy.

The addition created a full main-floor primary suite along with main-level laundry, allowing the homeowners to live almost entirely on one level. The kitchen and gathering spaces were opened up and refreshed with classic white cabinetry, warm wood floors, a large island and plenty of natural light.

A new four-season porch added valuable everyday living space to the main floor. Surrounded by windows, it gives the homeowners another comfortable place to relax, read or entertain and makes the home feel larger without adding unnecessary rooms.

What makes this renovation special is how naturally the changes fit into the existing home. It doesn’t feel like a house designed around aging. It simply feels like a beautiful, comfortable and highly functional home. By thinking ahead about how the homeowners may live in the future, we were able to create a home they can enjoy now and feel confident staying in for many years to come.
