Designed for a young family in Minnetonka, Modern in St. Albans Bay began with a clear vision: they wanted something distinctly different. Flat rooflines, black standing-seam metal siding and an almost industrial simplicity give the home its bold modern character, while natural wood brings warmth to both the exterior and interior.

Inside, the architecture opens dramatically. A two-story living and dining space is surrounded by expansive black-framed windows that stretch nearly floor to ceiling, flooding the home with natural light and connecting it to the wooded setting outside. An open staircase and exposed black steel add to the clean, structural feel of the home.

One of the most distinctive details is the exposed wood beam ceiling, which brings warmth and texture overhead and creates a beautiful contrast against the white walls, steel and glass. That natural wood continues in the cabinetry and other details throughout the home, softening the more industrial elements.

The result is a home that feels bold and architectural without feeling cold. Metal, steel and expansive glass are balanced by wood, natural light and views of the surrounding trees, creating a modern home that’s distinctive, comfortable and designed for everyday family life.
